1 Timothy 2:11-12
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
Commentary:
This is one of the most hotly debated topics within the American Church today. It is not an issue of men versus women, as there are woman who believe church leadership is reserved to men as well as men who believe that women can hold the office of deacon and/or minister. Paul says in clear terms, “I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man.” God created men and women with equal value and dignity, yet with separate gender roles. This is known as complementarianism. God has given men and women different, distinct roles within the family and the church.
