John 16:7
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

Commentary:
The Holy Spirit is referred to as the Comforter and the Counselor. The Holy Spirit is active in the life of the believer. He convicts, calls, teaches, cleanses, frees, regenerates, sanctifies, equips, empowers, comforts, and seals those with faith in Jesus. He pricks and prompts the heart of the unbeliever and convicts the heart of the believer. Justification results from reaction to the Spirit’s leading. Sanctification is the process of living in step with the will of the Spirit for the believer. The Spirit is the deposit of Salvation in the life of the believer. Jesus said it was for the benefit of the believer that he would return to the Father. Whereas Jesus was in one place at any one time during His earthly ministry, the Holy Spirit is present and active everywhere always.
