Question 31 :: What is the purpose of our good works?
Answer:
Good works are an outworking of my salvation for the glory of God.
Children:
My good works are for God’s glory.

Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Commentary:
Good works are a sign of God’s grace in our lives. They do not accomplish anything in our salvation. Christians are to live godly and holy lives in loving service to their neighbors. Christians live in the world among unbelievers as an example, acting properly so that false accusations will not stand against us because we have lived with integrity among unbelievers. People are supposed to notice your good works because your good character permeates them, not because of your attempt to have them see how "good" and "great" you are.
