Sanctification is growing more like Jesus.

Galatians 5:16-17

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.

Commentary:

Sanctification is the process of being set apart for God's work and being conformed to the image of Christ. As believers, we are sanctified at salvation in position. Sanctification is a lifelong process in a Christian and will not be fully realized until we are renewed in heaven. This conforming to Christ involves the work of the person, but it is still God working in the believer to produce more of a godly character and life in the person who has already been justified. Sanctification is not instantaneous because it is not the work of God alone. Throughout the life of a believer, the Holy Spirit convicts and equips us to be more like Jesus in all we do, think and desire. This process includes resisting sin, seeking holiness and submitting to the will of God.
