Question 18 :: How can I be saved?

Answer:

Believers accept the gracious gift of salvation, by believing the gospel, confessing our sinfulness, repenting and being baptized for the remission of sins and gift of the Holy Spirit.

Children:

Believers accept salvation by confessing, repenting, and being baptized.

Romans 10:9, Acts 2:38

If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Commentary:

The bible teaches that salvation is by grace, through faith, in Christ.  One receives God's saving grace through faith by believing with your heart and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9-10), repenting and being immersed in baptism for the forgiveness of sin and the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38-39), but that none of these is sufficient in and of itself for the assurance of salvation.

It is not our effort in, or performance of, these acts that saves. Jesus, and Jesus alone, is Savior by His sacrificial death and vicarious redemption.
