Question 2 :: What is the Trinity?

Answer:

There are three persons in the Godhead: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three are one God.  They are the same in essence and equal in power and glory.

Children:

There are three persons in one God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 13:14

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Commentary:

The Trinity is the doctrinal description of the revealed nature of God: Three persons in one Godhead.  The word Godhead describes the three persons who are equally God: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  They are co-equal and co-eternal.  The Trinity is a necessary belief of the Christian Faith.

The Scripture tells us that they are three, and yet but one God.  We are to be baptized into the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We should not say that there are three Gods, as God is one infinite and undivided.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are in perfect harmony, yet distinct persons with special roles in creation and redemption.
